Kuala Lumpur – Supermax Corp. Berhad expects to complete the first phase of its $550-million (€500 million) medical gloves plant in the US by final quarter 2023.

The facility, currently under construction in in Brazoria County, Texas, will be the Malaysian group’s first US plant and 18th manufacturing facility worldwide.

To be operated by subsidiary Maxter Healthcare Inc., the unit is add capacity to produce 400 million pieces/month of nitrile rubber gloves in each of four phases.

With all phases complete, the facility will have a total installed capacity to produce 1.6 billion gloves a month or 19.2 billion a year.

The US plant will eventually create up to 1,200 jobs and “be a showcase for advanced medical glove manufacturing technologies,” Supermax said.

The $550-million Texas plant will employ "advanced manufacturing, AI, and a highly automated production system,” added the group's 13 April statement.
