AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Chrysler (as FCA US, LLC) has agreed to recall certain 2023 Jeep Wrangler sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) which might have been produced with the rear center-high-mounted-stop lamp (CHMSL) installed in such a way its visibility was obstructed.
The 16 SUVs within the recall population might have been built with a spare-tire carrier with the incorrect brake lamp-bracket assembly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-565. Helipad Lighting System
NHTSA reported the safety risk as, “A CHMSL that is partially obstructed may not have adequate conspicuity to other drivers to indicate the intention to slow or stop, which can cause a crash without prior warning.”
There have been no reports of crashes, injuries or fatalities due to the brake lamp situation described in the recall.
The remedy is replacement of the spare-tire carrier by a franchised Chrysler/Jeep dealer.
The recalled Wrangler SUVs were built between Feb. 9th and 16th, 2023 at the company’s facility in Toledo, Ohio.
The company plans to notify its franchised dealers and customers about the recall by Sept. 29th.
