Colmac Coil Launches Adiabatic Cooler for Industrial Applications

U.S. component manufacturer Colmac Coil has launched its Adiabatic V-Bank Cooler for industrial refrigeration applications. According to a statement from the manufacturer, the unit is available as a fluid cooler, an air-cooled condenser and a CO2 (R744) gas cooler.

By integrating both dry and wet operation into its controls system, Colmac Coil’s new adiabatic cooler helps to reduce water use and improve system efficiency. Cold Room

“We are bringing a unique solution to the industrial refrigeration market,” said Joe Fazzari, President of Colmac Coil. “The customization through Colmac Dryware Selection Software, our adiabatic controls package and the recirculation water system ensures peak performance across many applications, providing significant benefits to the end user in terms of energy and water savings.”

The manufacturer has noticed a growing interest in CO2-based technologies in the industrial sector as end users transition away from HFCs due to changing regulations and ammonia (R717) due to toxicity concerns.

“The customization through Colmac Dryware Selection Software, our adiabatic controls package and the recirculation water system ensures peak performance across many applications, providing significant benefits to the end user in terms of energy and water savings.”

According to the manufacturer, its exclusive recirculated water system eliminates the need for water treatment and ensures enhanced energy efficiency compared to conventional once-through adiabatic water distribution systems.

Water consumption can be reduced further with the use of specific high-quality adiabatic pads, which are also designed for easy servicing and replacement. Alternatively, end users opt for pads that offer the lowest initial cost.

For energy conservation, the unit includes electronically commutated (EC) motor as standard. Its variable-speed functionality responds to real-time heat loads and ambient temperature to increase energy efficiency. The EC fan motor often exceeds energy efficiency requirements, is quiet during use and offer extended lifespan due to efficient operation, compared to traditional AC motors.

The unit’s controls ensure precise fan speed and water-use functionality to help maintain the required leaving fluid or gas temperature.

“Wet media pads positioned before or around the heat exchanger coils cool the air by evaporating water from the pads, lowering the temperature of the air entering the heat exchanger coils,” explained the manufacturer. “This temperature differential facilitates more effective heat transfer in various applications, such as cold storage and food processing.”

The design of the large capacity V-bank cooler reduces its footprint, making it ideal for smaller spaces, said Colmac Coil.

The unit is currently available in 1–20 fan configurations through the Colmac Coil representative network, the company added.
